On 2 October 2024, the University of Alcalá will host the seminar “The memory of the Holocaust in Spain: past, present and future”. The event will take place from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM in the Assembly Hall of Colegio de Málaga, Faculty of Philosophy and Arts.

The seminar aims to explore the construction and representation of the Holocaust in Spain, examining how this tragic episode has been reflected across various aspects of Spanish culture. The event will feature the presentation of the platform developed by the HORES project, which gathers contributions from Spanish creators to the global memory of the Holocaust through different genres and media.

Key speakers include María Jesús Fernández-Gil, Luisa Juárez Hervás and Lorena Silos Ribas, who will kick off the seminar with an introduction to the HORES project. Israel Doncel Martín will follow with an analysis of the cultural representation of the Holocaust in Spain. In closing, Javier Mateos-Pérez will deliver a lecture on how the Holocaust and Nazism have been depicted in 21st-century Spanish television fiction.

The event is free to attend until venue capacity is reached and is open to the entire university community (students, faculty, and administrative staff), ending with a discussion between attendees and speakers.
